The concept of “proportion” is one of the most fundamental ways humans understand and organize the world around them. This concept is rooted in the embodied perception of space and is reflected in the relationship between the body, place, and lived experience. Architecture, as a discipline grounded in human proportions, is deeply connected to the human body and spatial perception. In puppet theater, this system of proportions undergoes a metamorphosis, as the figures, or puppets, in various forms, stand in for the human body, thereby redefining the criteria of spatial perception. The proportions in architectural forms and their impact on the embodied perception of space and the surrounding environment can serve as a model for studying the transformation of proportions on the puppet theater stage and their influence on the audience’s embodied experience. This study, employing a descriptive-analytical approach and grounded in scientific and library resources, examines the concept of proportion in architecture and its transformation in the stage design of puppet theatre. In this context, we aim to analyze the possibility of rethinking the function of space through this metamorphosis, drawing on the phenomenological approach of Steven Holl, who conceives space not merely as a physical entity but as an embodied, sensory, and metaphorical experience. This research demonstrates how shifting the criterion of proportion from the human body to the puppet figure can transform the spatial structures of the stage.
