Theater is a field of thought and inquiry. Modern theatrical movements, in redefining and transforming their relationship with the audience, have never neglected the creation of an active and inquisitive engagement. Questioning reflects the exploratory nature of the human mind and has a direct correlation with creativity. Questioning is an attitude that explores the given answers in relation to their limitations and fosters a thoughtful and continuous process. It assumes a broader meaning as the final, continuous movement in a closed intellectual world. Questioning is the stimulus of thinking. Children are in a position to learn by asking. Considering the characteristics and existential elements of theater, the cultivation of a questioning and critical mind can and should be placed in the realm of children’s theater. Undoubtedly, to achieve such an ideal, there are specific forms of theater that, beyond the desire to create mere entertainment and enjoyment, focus on enhancing cognitive functions. This article examines the potential of creative drama and its improvisational feature in developing a spirit of inquiry in children, through the study and analysis of various texts and theories on questioning and improvisation, using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings indicate that creative drama, particularly through its gradual improvisational process, has a significant effect on enhancing children’s thinking and inquiry skills.
