Nihilism, as one of the most fundamental philosophical issues, has its roots in the thoughts of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, and later, through Heidegger's critique of Dasein, it portrays the existential crisis of contemporary humanity in the face of technological dominance and degradation. Heidegger sees the fall of man as a consequence of the dominance of technology and the crisis of meaning, while Baudrillard, by introducing three waves of nihilism, explains the gradual process of meaning's destruction. Within the scope of these theories, the fourth wave of nihilism, with the emergence of new technologies, acts as a form of cultural dictatorship in the new millennium. In this context, cinema, as a collective art form and cultural tool, plays a key role in shaping the ideologies of contemporary societies. Although cinema has the potential to serve as a platform for the reflection of truth, enlightenment, and philosophical contemplation, under the influence of capitalist systems and imperialist control, it has become a tool for simplifying thought and spreading nihilism. In such a situation, consumerist themes, hollow digital images, and superficial narratives are imposed on the audience's mind. This media and economic domination marginalize the existential meaning of humanity and has stripped cinema of its role as a space for philosophical inquiry and the pursuit of truth. This paper, by focusing on the fourth wave of nihilism, examines the impact of this phenomenon on cinema and demonstrates how cinema, instead of reflecting human truth and intellectual thought, has transformed into a platform for meaninglessness, superficiality, and nihilism. Ultimately, this research seeks to emphasize the necessity of restoring existential meaning and philosophical thought to cinema by uncovering the hidden facets of this degradation.
