The upcoming research examines the challenges faced by men and women in Indian society in the play A Doll’s House by Tanika Gupta. In contrast, the time of the play is related to a period of history when India was under British colonialism. Gayatri Chakraborty Spivak is one of the most reliable theorists in the field of post-colonial studies who, by presenting theories about class, race, and gender with a deconstructive approach, is the creator of the concept of “subaltern” and questions the marginal status of women in such societies. Therefore, his opinions will help to analyze a play like A Doll’s House. Tanika Gupta is a Bengali-British author who wrote this play in 2019. In the face of the play A Doll’s House, the question is raised whether colonial oppression beyond the racial divide can alienate and marginalize women’s gender more than men. The answer to this question is what this research has done with a descriptive-analytical approach. It is assumed that the achievements of the colonialists were based on the racial divide created by the colonial discourse, and the oppression was justified thereby. At the same time, the female gender experiences the feeling of being different more than the male gender. From the colonized perspective, the colonizers appear as alien “others,” highlighting the ambivalent relationship between the two groups.
